THE HOUSE LORETTA

Sitting across the street from the St.-Gregory the Great Church, this single-family residence is situated on a 30’ wide virgin lot, in the West Andersonville neighborhood.  The home, named to honor the owner’s grandmother, was tailored for its occupant.  The property does not have a basement, but rather a simple polished concrete slab on grade which provides heat in winter and is cool on foot in the summer.  The 3 bedroom, 3 bath residence provides a guest suite on the ground floor for ease of access for aging parents, as well as a way to keep guests off of the private second floor.

The main floor offers generous living space, open and sundrenched, with a side yard on the south for dining and entertaining, as well as a rear yard, between the house and garage, with room for a firepit and some landscaping.

On the exterior, the two-story home is clad in red recyclable aluminum shingles, both on the walls and the roof, as well as salvaged cypress. The material choice stands out on the block, yet the color choice allows the home to blend in with its neighbors of red and yellow bricks.  The shape is reminiscent of historic cottages with a sprinkle of Scandinavian flair.  The wood volume provides an additional outdoor space off of the home office while breaking down the street facing volume of the house.
